NSU releases top two football coaches
Published on Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Northern State is looking for new coaches and more wins for its football program.
Head coach Chris Boden and assistant/defensive coordinator Richard Sweeney have been released from their duties at the end of the 2009 season, which is Saturday when Northern State will play Augustana College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sioux Falls. It was not an easy decision for NSU officials. NSU has gone 3-18 in the past two seasons, 18-36 overall in the five years the coaches have been at NSU and 16-29 in conference play.
“They have done a great job not only for the athletic department, but the university as well,” said Northern State athletic director Bob Olson. “But it is time to take the program in another direction. Now, you can talk about wins and losses, but to me, the right term is to take the program in another direction.”
