DICKINSON: Missing students liked to star gaze
Published on Tuesday, November 03, 2009
DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — The father of one of three missing college students in southwestern North Dakota says the women often went star gazing in the Dickinson area, and that police do not suspect foul play in the disappearances.
Kyrstin Gemar's father, Lenny Gemar, told ABC's "Good Morning America" in a telephone interview on Tuesday that the Dickinson State University softball players would hang out by Patterson Lake southwest of the city and chat.
Police say 22-year-old Kyrstin Gemar, 21-year-old Ashley Neufeld and 20-year-old Afton Williamson called a friend late Sunday night, and she called 911 to report they needed help. Police Lt. Dave Wallace said water was mentioned but the context was not clear.
A search involving planes and ground officers Monday was called off when it got dark. Lenny Gemar said he's not aware of searchers finding any clues.
Police Officer Thomas Grosz said the search was likely to resume at daylight Tuesday.
